Early Years of Hitler
· Born on April 20, 1889 in Braunau, Austria.

Hitler did not do well in school. He left formal
education in 1905.

He wished to become an artist
·
At
the age of 18, he moved to Vienna with the money he inherited after his father's
death in 1903.
·
He
wished to pursue a career in art. However, the Vienna Academy of Art
and the School of Architecture both rejected him.
·
Hitler
became interested in politics.
·
He
was impressed with the anti-Semitic, nationalist Christian-Socialist party.
·
During
the First World War he volunteered to fight for the German Army and gained the
rank of corporal.
·
Won
several awards for bravery, including the Iron Cross First Class.
·
October
1918-he was blinded in a mustard gas attack and Germany was forced to surrender.
·
He went into a state of great depression.
·
1919-Hitler attended his first meeting of the German Workers' party, an
anti-Semitic, nationalist group.
·
He
agreed with Anton Drexler's German nationalism and anti-Semitism.
·
Hitler
began to make his own speeches, which left his audience mesmerized.
·
1921-
became the leader of the Nazi Party.
·
1923-
the Nazi Party had 56,000 members and many more supporters.
